Common questions

It says something is crooked and I know it is level

Zero it first. Rest the phone on something you know is level and tap ZERO. Every sensor leaves the factory with a small offset, and until you correct it the app calls level things crooked. The zero is free and it is remembered.

How accurate is it?

After zeroing, around ±0.2°. That is what a phone sensor gives — this app and every other one. It is a good level; it is not a surveying instrument.

Flat or on edge — which one?

Flat lays the phone on a surface and reads both directions at once, like a torpedo level with two vials. On edge stands it against something upright, like holding a level against a post.

Why is my reading different from my 4-foot level?

The phone is about six inches long, so it reads the bump it is sitting on, not the plane. Rest it on a straightedge that spans the run and it will agree.

What does “over a distance” give me?

The drop at the far end. Set the length of the run and the app tells you how much the far end falls — the number you actually shim, in inches and fractions or in millimetres.

I paid and moved to a new phone

Open the unlock screen and tap Restore. The purchase is tied to your Apple Account, not to the device, and there is nothing to sign up for.

Does the level itself cost anything?

No. The level, degrees, the zero, the alert and holding a reading are free forever, with no ads. The one-time unlock adds the trade units, the drop over a distance, the photo protractor, export, saved measurements and the converter.

Does it work without signal?

Yes, all of it. Nothing in the app needs the internet.
